Numerical studies of steady flow dispersion at low Dean number in a gently curving tube

چکیده

Using both Monte Carlo and numerical techniques, Taylor dispersion in a curved tube at low Dean numbers has been evaluated and the results are in qualitative agreement with those found by Janssen (1976) : Dn2Sc is the controlling parameter with Dell falling to about 0.2 of its straight-tube value at high values of DnaSc. Agreement with available experimental data is generally good. Further, we find that for large Dn2Sc, the transition from convective to diffusive dispersion occurs earlier than in straight-tube flow, but only by a factor of two.

Numerical Investigation on Contaminant Dispersion from a Source over the Blocks in Steady and Unsteady Flows

This paper deals with numerical study of semi-finite incompressible flow of air over two blocks with different heights in the presence of a condensing-source, dispensing- contaminant in the flow, in both steady and unsteady states. The numerical solution of governing PDE equations are constructed by a finite-volume method applied on structured grid arrangement. The effects of air flow velocity,...

Transient Natural Convection Flow on an Isothermal Vertical Wall at High Prandtl Numbers: Second-Order Approximation

The method of matched asymptotic expansions, which has been used in previous studies of steady natural convection flow, is extended here to transient natural convection flow at high Prandtl number (Pr). Second-order expansion solutions, valid for large Prandtl numbers, are presented for the transient natural convection flow near a vertical surface which undergoes a step change in temperature. T...

Shear Dispersion along Circular Pipes Is Affected by Bends, but the Torsion of the Pipe Is Negligible

The flow of a viscous fluid along a curving pipe of fixed radius is driven by a pressure gradient. For a generally curving pipe it is the fluid flux which is constant along the pipe and so I correct fluid flow solutions of Dean (1928) and Topakoglu (1967) which assume constant pressure gradient. When the pipe is straight, the fluid adopts the parabolic velocity profile of Poiseuille flow; the s...

Steady Flow Through Modeled Glottal Constriction

The airflow in the modeled glottal constriction was simulated by the solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for laminar flow, and the corresponding Reynolds equations for turbulent flow in generalized, nonorthogonal coordinates using a numerical method. A two-dimensional model of laryngeal flow is considered and aerodynamic properties are calculated for both laminar and turbulent steady flows...

Calculation of the steady flow through a curved tube using a new finite-difference method

A numerical method is described which is suitable for solving the equations governing the steady motion of a viscous fluid through a slightly curved tube of circular crosssection but which is also applicable to the solution of any problem governed by the steady two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations in the plane polar co-ordinate system. The governing equations are approximated by a scheme whi...
